Hawai’i re-opened to out-of-state visitors on October 15, 2020.
As of Oct. 15, 2020, all out-of-state visitors arriving in Hawai’i can avoid the 14-day quarantine with a valid FDA approved COVID-19 Nucleic Acid Amplification Test within 72 hours of the final leg of your departure to Hawai’i.  PLEASE NOTE: Kaua’i has additional safety guidelines for protecting its island, people and limited health care facilities and resources.  Kaua’i Mayor’s Rule #19 encourages travelers to take a voluntary test 3 days after arrival, requires wearing of face mask at all times and also established a Four Tiered System for responding to any increase case counts on Kaua’i.  The Four Tiered System, determine restriction levels that could automatically place all travel to Kaua’i into a 14-Day Mandatory Quarantine.  For more information, click here and scroll down to Kaua’i County for additional information.

Upon your arrival at Lihue airport, proof of a negative test results for everyone in your party must be presented and you will be required to fill out the Kauai Arrival Form. The State’s mandatory 14-day quarantine will remain in place for those who choose not to get pre-tested.

Makai Club Resort will not be accepting Owners or Guests from out-of-state or other Hawaiian Islands who arrive with pending or positive test results. As long as the State and County mandated quarantine restrictions remain in place, Makai Club Resort will not accept Owners or Guests subject to the 14-day quarantine and will need to find other accommodations.

Key components of the pre-travel testing program include (click for visual checklist):

  • All travelers must provide proof of a negative result from an FDA approved COVID-19 Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) taken within 72 hours from the final leg of departure.
  • If test results are not available upon arrival, the traveler is subject to the 14-day quarantine until the negative test results are reported to the State of Hawai‘i Department of Health.
  • All travelers are required to have their temperature checked and complete the Mandatory State of Hawai’i Travel and Health Form as part of the Safe Travels Program.
  • NAAT tests, processed by a CLIA-certified laboratory are the only types of coronavirus tests currently approved for use in this program
    • Antigen tests will not be accepted
  • Click here to view a list of current approved trusted testing partners. Travelers will be responsible for the cost of their test.

Mandatory Safe Travels Program
All travelers are required to complete the online Safe Travels Form as stated above. The digital application collects health and travel information before travelers arrive at the airport and is critical to protecting the health of residents and visitors alike. Safe Travels is one part of a multi-layered screening process, which also includes arrival temperature checks, and secondary screening for those with symptoms or temperatures of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. The form can be found here.
